Magaz Ladoo for AlifBe of Sindhi food~32
The AlifBe #32 is غ i.e G̣ (some write it as Ġ) in Roman and some also use 'Ghh' to represent this alphabet since it may be challenging to give a diacritic mark (dot) above or below an alphabet while using regular Keyboard. In Devanagari it is ग़ as in ग़ालीचा (Carpet). The corresponding dish is Magaz Ja ladoo as the 'G' used in the word Magaz is G̣ or غ in Sindhi script. Vasdev Mohi, Sindhi well known Poet
This Documentary - Vasdev Mohi - was made 5 years ago with the assitance of NCPSL. Produced by Asha Chand for Sindhi Sangat. Vasdev Mohi is a great Sindhi Poet who has following books to his credit. Vasdev Mohi i s an eminent Sindhi poet and short story writer. He has enriched Sindhi poetry with sheer clarity of expression, lucidity of diction, and profundity of thought. Vasdev Mohi was born at Mirpur Khas, Sindh (Undivided India). His full name is Vasdev Vensimal Sidhnani.Having acquired his Masters degree in English literature from Gujarat University, he joined the Central Government but after a short stint he joined the academic profession to teach English in Indian High School, Dubai, from where he retired as lecturer and Head of English department. Vasdev Mohi emerged as an icon of first generation of modern Sindhi poetry, with sharpness of content and perspicuity of elocution, which is a rare combination in poetics of any language. Mohi has a powerful grip on all genres and forms of poetry - be it traditional prosodic treatise or modern sensibility of new poetry (Nai Kavita), which is far from pedantry. In new poetry his poignant imagery, coupled with a distinct diction and vocabulary has uplifted Mohi to the stature of a pinnacle of modern Sindhi poetry. With his very first collection of poems Tazad (Contradiction) Mohi made a mark in Sindhi literary world on both sides of the border. After that he has walked steadfastly on the path of literature in all the genres of poetry, story, playwriting and creative criticism. In Mohi's poetry elocution of satirical approach and sarcastic observations on sociopolitical topics resulted into the emergence of the mind pouring out in the shape of verses, which could simultaneously move a lay reader as much as these could stir an intellectual reader with their impact and intensity. Hiro Thakur and his writings
Hiro Thakur is a poet, writer and research scholar of eminence Sindhi poetry, critical essays and research articles are his main forte. He was born on 2nd March, 1943 in Hyderabad, Sindh. A reputed broadcaster and a journalist, Shri Hiro Thakur has also served as a Parliamentary Correspondent for one of the leading Sindhi newspaper 'Hindustan Daily', Mumbai, and has also been the Editor of 'Koonj', a literary magazine. The Sahitya Akademi has conferred Shri Hiro Thakur with two awards. The first one was in the year 2003 for his essay book Tahqiq ain Tanqid and the second one for his translated Krishna chandra joon Choond kahaniyaoon in the year 2012. He is an approved artists of all India Radio and is still working for the same. Dr. Arjan Detaram Nathani is known as Dr. Arjan Sikayal in field of Literature. He is a multifaceted personality - he is a doctor, a writer, a poet and a journalist. His contribution in the field of Sindhi Literature has been great and valuable in the form of his novels, articles and poems. He has written about 30 books covering various subjects and branches of literature like poetry, novels, biographies, criticism, essasys, articles and texts on Ayurveda. Some of his works have been translated in Hindi and Gujarati. Dr. Sikayal has received various awards in recognition of his literary services. He got Awards from Akhil Bharat Sindhi Boli Ain Sahit Sabha, Priya Darshani Foundation, Bajaj Foundation, Sahyog Foundation, Gursahani Foundation and National Council for Promotion of Sindhi Language (NCPSL). He also received prestigious Nehru Peace Award from Gov.t of Russia. He received Sindhi Sahitya Academy Award in 1970. He has contributed some of his great works to the Sindhi Community. Please watch, share and like. fb.com/SindhiSangatworldwide FROM SINDHU WORLD Masters and critics of the Sindhi language and literature have a common view about the famous Sindhi poet Narayan Shyam that he the only one after the Shah Sahib who not only have control on language and expression but he is the ocean of vocabulary even in Farsi also. Narayan Shyam was born as the son of Dewan Gokuldas and Jamunadevi Nagwani on 22 July 1922 at a small village Khahi Kasim of Taluka Naushahro Feroze of Nawabshah district in Sindh. As he grow the freedom movement gets more and more stronger, at the time of partition in 1947 he was working as teacher of Persian [Farsi] language at his birth village. After the partition family was shifted to India and Narayan completed his B.A. from Mumbai University. Soon he was in service of post and telegram department in the accounts section as a clerk. His poetry was unique in the sense that when he started his literary journey he was lover boy of the critics but after the partition his language become so easy to understand that he become darling of masses. During the entire period from 1953 to 1988 [Time span of his first and last publication] though he wrote only 11 books but still his every word and line is still worth to watch. I would like to quote just four lines from his book "Wari-a-Bharyo Paland" for which he was honored with prestigious "Sahitya Academy Award" in 1970. “Saro Dinhu Kanda Rahiya Bar Nandi-e-bhar Rand Sanjhi Mahal Chhade Uthiya Wari-a-Bharyal Paland” He retired from service 1980 as the Head clerk and has worked as the convener of Sahitya Academy from 1978 to 1987. Sindhi Sahit Ji timurti Video documentary was produced by Asha Chand and Bina - Geeta Khiani in year 2000. One of the three best known literary figures and freedom fighter Shri A. J. Uttam is being interviewed by Dr. Arjan Sikayal. Shri A. J. Uttam was an outstanding progressive writer, critic, journalist, editor and very well known for outspoken, consistent well studied and documented opinion. In fact he was called the walking, talking and living encyclopedia of Sindhi literature. Shri A. J. Uttam (Or Assandas Jethanand Uttamchandani) was born on 16th December 1923 in Hyderabad Sindh (now in Pakistan). He formed a progressive writers group in 1946 in Hyderabad - Sindh, which held weekly literary study classes in which famous writers like Lekhraj Aziz, Professor M. U. Malkani, Tirth Basant, Prof. Gehimal Mulchandani and Kalyan Advani & revolutionary poet Haider Bux Jatoi and others participated/attended. Here he also interacted with other progressive artists like A.K. Hangal, Gobind Malhi, Shaikh Ayaz, Anand Golani and others. For some more information visit :A. J. Uttam was one of the pioneers of the first premier literary and cultural organization - Sindhi Sahit Mandal which was formed in January 1949 under the presidentship of Prof. M. U, Malkani in Bombay, the well-known dramatist and Historian. A. J. Uttam held the post of General Secretary and Vice President. The Mandal encouraged upcoming writers. Here many writers sent their writings to weekly study class. The Sindhi Sahit Mandal eventually evolved as the seat of Sindhi literary and cultural activities. It started the Sindhi language recognition movement in 1952 with five writers committee including Mr. A. J. Uttam. It held annual sammelans which included cultural programmes by Bhagwanti Navani, Smt. Sundri Uttamchandani, Savita Babani, Shivo Ramnani, Loku Hemrajani, Moti Prakash & others. He has also remained Special Executive Magistrate (S.E.M.).
